Quick Insight
When it comes to your child’s progress, therapy sessions alone are not enough.
The real progress happens between sessions in your home, your routines, and your everyday interactions.
Even small, consistent moments of support from you can make a significant difference in how your child moves, learns, and regulates.
Why This Matters
Your child’s brain and body develop through repetition, consistency, and connection.
Therapy gives the plan.
But you bring the plan to life.
Research and clinical experience show that when parents are involved:
- Progress happens faster
- Skills carry over into real life
- Children feel more supported and confident
What This Supports
✔ Stronger brain-body connection
✔ Better focus and attention
✔ Improved coordination and motor skills
✔ Emotional regulation
✔ Confidence in daily activities
The Key Points
This is not about doing more.
It’s about doing small things consistently.
It’s also about working with your child, not on your child, building connection, safety, and co-regulation along the way.
HTS Family Tip
HTS families have access to the RITP App and movement breaks, we highly recommend downloading the app and using these short, guided activities at home to support consistency and carryover. To get free access to the app, email kokebm@hopetech.org with your name, your child’s name, and their grade.
Try This: 5 Simple Ways to Get Involved This Summer
1. Add 5 Minutes of Movement Daily
Pick 1–2 simple activities (animal walks, rolling, crawling).
👉 Why it works: Repetition strengthens the brain-body connection.
2. Turn Therapy Into Play
Instead of “doing exercises,” make it a game.
👉 Why it works: Play increases engagement and consistency.
3. Use Daily Routines
Incorporate movement into:
- Getting dressed
- Bedtime
- Transitions
👉 Why it works: Real-life practice creates real-life change.
4. Follow Your Child’s Lead
Watch what your child naturally enjoys and build from there.
👉 Why it works: Motivation increases participation.
5. Stay Consistent (Not Perfect)
Aim for short, daily practice rather than long, occasional sessions.
👉 Why it works: Consistency is what drives lasting progress.
Final Thought
You don’t need to be a therapist to support your child.
You just need:
- A simple plan
- A few minutes a day
- And the willingness to show up consistently
That’s where the real change happens.
