Inclusion at HTS
Inclusion is more than sharing a classroom; it means ensuring each child is supported and engaged.
Our commitment to inclusive education
At HTS, we are a fully inclusive school community that proudly welcomes both neurotypical and neurodiverse students. We believe that learning together fosters empathy, perspective, and growth for every student. Every child brings unique strengths and gifts to our community, and we are dedicated to honoring those differences.
Defining meaningful inclusion
Inclusion is more than sharing a classroom; it means ensuring each child is supported and engaged. While we strive to educate students alongside their peers, meaningful participation requires foundational skills in learning, safety, emotional regulation and engagement.
A dynamic partnership
Children’s needs can change, and we stay in close communication with families to ensure HTS remains the right fit. If a student’s needs grow beyond what our program can safely and effectively support, we partner with parents to explore next steps that will help their child thrive.
Accommodations and modifications
In our classrooms, we provide a range of accommodations and modifications, including
- Adjusted classwork and homework loads
- Differentiated small group instruction
- Brain breaks
- Individualized service plans (ISPs) with specific goals
- Sensory-sensitive classroom designs
- Visual schedules
- Desk and chart reminders
- Assignments broken down into manageable tasks and scaffolded
- Additive technology, e.g. access to audiobooks.

What supports we do and do not provide
At HTS, students learn in a neurotypical classroom using a regular education curriculum. We provide accommodations and some modifications. However, we do not offer:
- intensive therapeutic supports typically available in a public school special day class (for example, we do not have onsite behavior therapists).
- one‑to‑one aide support.
While many students thrive in a general education setting with appropriate accommodations, others may require specialized instruction or a more structured support environment to build essential skills outside of HTS.
