Here, your child will find the encouragement and resources needed to thrive academically and personally, surrounded by a community that values and nurtures their potential.

Services provided

Our therapists and specialized services staff collaborate closely with each other and our educators to ensure the success of every student in and beyond our diverse classroom environments. Our innovative specialized service department offers tailored support to meet the unique needs of each student while ensuring the success of our students by customizing to the needs of each child.

In addition to these services, we work with an occupational therapist (OT) who provides comprehensive school-wide consultation. Our OT is onsite once a week, and diligently collaborates with teachers and staff, providing expert guidance and tailored strategies to support the diverse needs of our students. This program ensures that every student benefits from professional insights to enhance their learning experience throughout the school day.

Speech-language pathology services (SLPS) offers speech therapy, early language stimulation, and language therapy provided by either our speech language pathologist (SLP) or SLP-assistant (SLPA). To receive services, our SLP first evaluates the student’s overall communication abilities. If therapy is recommended, the SLP will propose goals based on the assessments and the child’s unique needs. Once goals and service frequency are agreed upon, the SLP will collaborate with teachers to schedule regular therapy sessions during the school day and develop an individualized service plan (ISP). These sessions are integrated into our innovative, technology-rich classrooms, fostering an inclusive and diverse environment for all students.

As part of our accommodations, we develop personalized plans to support each student’s unique needs. An individualized service plan (ISP), as mentioned above, is provided to students receiving speech and language therapy services through our on-site therapy department. Other students who require classroom accommodations or curriculum modifications have an individualized learning plan (ILP).

ISP/ILP parent meetings are held annually. We gather with you, the teacher(s), therapist(s), and an administrator to discuss academic and therapeutic progress, necessary classroom accommodations for each student’s success, and propose goals for the following ISP year, with progress updates provided two to three times per year. This process fosters an involved and engaging community, ensuring each student finds their individual sense of meaning and purpose within our inclusive and diverse environment.

To address the sensory needs of our students, our adaptive PE (APE) teacher collaborates with our occupational therapist (OT) consultant to develop individualized movement breaks and sensory routines for each class. These aptly named “sensory diets” incorporate activities that enhance bilateral coordination, utilizing resources such as our motor room and encouraging students to take walking laps in the hallways as needed. We have observed that meeting these sensory needs enhances students’ ability to concentrate, thereby fostering a more productive learning environment. This initiative supports interpersonal development and social-emotional growth, contributing to an inclusive and diverse community where every student can thrive.

Additionally, our adaptive PE class provides online resources for students to maintain their movement exercises and sensory diets outside the classroom.

Our SLPA facilitates social groups to enhance social skills such as active listening, perspective-taking, reading nonverbal cues, conversation skills, identifying emotions, expressing emotional vocabulary, and social problem-solving. This approach builds an involved and engaging community of peers and supports social-emotional growth within our inclusive and diverse student body.

Groups meet once a week for 30 minutes over a span of 8 sessions. Each group, consisting of 2-4 students, is formed based on the participants’ social needs and age range, promoting individualized academic attention. At the end of the 8-week program, a progress report is provided.

What is an individualized service plan (ISP)?2024-08-30T09:34:11-07:00

Progress updates will be provided 2-3 times per year.

How do I start the evaluation process?2024-07-31T15:50:10-07:00

For your child to receive speech-language therapy services at Hope Technology School, our SLP first assesses your child’s overall communication abilities. If therapy is recommended, the SLP will propose goals based on the assessments and the individual needs of your child.

If the SLP needs to attend an IEP meeting, the parents will be charged an additional fee based on the therapeutic rates.

These groups are designed to provide students with the opportunity to learn and practice social skills in a small group setting. These groups are led by the SLPA or other HTS staff members.
