Howard Kiyuna has taught at HTS since its inception in 2001. While Howard has played many roles in his time at HTS, his innovative work to incorporate technology into our curriculum and school is unparalleled. His teaching embodies our HTS mission of using technology to maximize the learning experience of our students.
Howard’s Genius Hours and Makerspace classes expose students to the boundless possibilities of tech through code, robotics, 3D modeling, and more. His student-centered innovation program called Crea8 was highlighted in his contribution to the book, The Genius Hour Guidebook: Fostering Passion, Wonder, and Inquiry in the Classroom (2nd Edition) by Denise Krebs and Gallit Zvi.
Howard’s classrooms are built to increase student engagement and creativity through hands-on technology projects, as well as writing, cooking, and gardening. He shows students all that they are capable of creating and learning. As a result of his innovative drive, HTS has become a place of collaboration and exploration, using technology positively and effectively in the classroom.
Since he began at HTS, Howard has been nominated to the “Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers” for three consecutive years.
Howard has a master’s degree in mild to moderate special education and a teaching credential in mild to moderate special education from San Francisco State University.
